Zachary beat the odds
Zachary beat the odds

Team Zachary

We ride to thank Children's Hospital Colorado for serving patients like Zachary Mayer-Bickel.  In May 1999, just days after birth, Zack was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. He was rushed to Children's, where he was treated in the neo-natal intensive care unit for three weeks. Although the prognosis was grim when Zack arrived at Children's, his treatment was successful. Nineteen years later, he is back from his first year at Oberlin College and once again riding in the tour, along with the rest of the family: his parents (Amanda and Peter), brother (Miles), and Opa Tom Mayer who is doing the entire tour (once again) at age 80! Zack's grandparents began riding in the tour the year after his treatment, and family members have ridden in the tour as Team Zachary most years since then.

Children's has helped many, many kids beat the odds. We are forever grateful for the care Zack received--and for the wonderful care provided to so many other kids over the years.
