This was my first Courage Classic tour riding for Children's Hospital Colorado. I rode with the team "Wheels of Justice" and it was a moving experience. Each year, Wheels honors the memory of a childhood cut short to cancer. This year we honored the memory of Koby. Koby was diagnosed with brain cancer in 5th grade. He and his family rode with Wheels in the Courage Classic in 2017 before Koby passed from complications of his glioblastoma at age 13. Our team jerseys honored Koby's memory this year and his family was there to cheer us on. Glioblastoma is a terrifying diagnosis and I have lost dear friends to this terrible cancer: I cannot imagine what Koby's family went through. They recieved the support they needed from Children's to support Koby through his journey and are continuing to find peace through the Courage Classic and the Wheels team.
Koby's family continues to honor his memory through a memorial ride: https://mgruenwald.wixsite.com/mysite
Koby will not be the last child to face a life-threatening illness, and his family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis. The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children. Please donate on my behalf.
