Hi I’m Nina and I am doing a triathlon with my family Saturday August 14th for the Courage Classic this year(hoping to raise money for Celiac Disease). I was diagnosed with Celiac disease in the summer of 2019. If you have already read any of the other blurbs you probably know what Celiac disease is but for those of you that don’t know. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease (meaning your own immune system attacks itself, mean right). In your small intestine live villi finger looking things that absorb nutrients, so your body can get energy and grow. But gluten dulls your villi making it really hard to get the nutrients you need. So by going on a strict gf diet your villi grow back. Pretty cool right. I am super lucky that I have a family who was able to adjust to the gluten free diet so well but some families aren’t as lucky. Unfortunately gluten free food costs more than gluten containing food and not all of us are able to afford it. By donating to our team you are helping many families get the food that they need to follow their diet and live a safe and healthy life. Another part of adjusting to the gluten free diet is changing out your kitchen supplies depending on what they are. Any wood cutting boards or spoons that have been used with gluten should be replaced but as always that costs money. So by donating just even a small amount that is helping. Hopefully you can help us reach our goal.
