This year, I’ll be joining Children's Hospital Colorado in fundraising and celebrating the first ever Courage Classic Virtual Tour. I will be riding the 80 mile Copper Triangle loop on August 15th. The ride will crest three mountain passes and conquer a total of 6500 feet of elevation gain. I hope you’ll consider joining me by making a donation as I go the distance for children’s health.
This year’s Courage Classic honors the bravery, grit and perseverance of patients, families and caregivers, along with our determination to come together - even if it has to be virtually - to help those who need our support.
Along with the incredible work Children's Colorado is doing related to COVID-19 - including research, caregiver relief efforts and telemedicine – the hospital continues to provide world-class medical care for children whose injuries and illnesses cannot wait. Sick kids don’t get to take a break from medical treatments, even in a pandemic.
The Courage Classic Bicycle Tour is the single largest gathering of people coming together to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado. The Psyched to Climb team will be riding to raise awareness and money for all Colorado children with mental health challenges.
The Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) at Children's Colorado served more than 6,500 children last year, but there is still much work to do. The suicide rate in Colorado is the 9th highest in the nation and suicide is the leading cause of death in Colorado for kids ages 10-24. One in five youth are affected by mental illness and only one of three of those affected receive mental health services. On average, youth struggle with symptoms of mental health issues for eight to 10 years before accessing care. We know that early access to quality mental health care significantly improves outcomes, so we need to let families know it is necessary to speak up and seek services for their children.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
