I want you to know this sweet face - Harper's face.
Harper knows my face as one that came all too close to hers while "dropping" that tube down her nose every two weeks for her first 6 months in Special Care Clinic.
Harper knows Vail as the mountain town from which she was air-lifted to Children's exactly one year ago for heart failure secondary to a bacterial infection. Harper's heart already needed a little help from birth and she has a pacemaker to do just that.
Harper also knows that biking is not my forte.
Harper and the 4,100+ other kids and their families seen in our outpatient primary care clinic are the reasons I sign up for activities I have no business doing. Their stories all vary widely, but their resilience is enough to set my pace for the 2021 Courage Classic (even if at 0.00074 mph).
Here's to the faces and the pace-makers that keep me humble, somewhat in-shape, and definitely inspired.
