When a friend invited me to ride the Children's Hospital Colorado Courage Classic this summer, how could I say no? My bike has been a godsend ths past year. I am so fortunate to be physically capable of riding a bike, including up mountain passes. But I know not everyone is as fortunate and there are so many children out there who would give anything to spend one carefree day riding their bike with friends. We can give them hope!
The Courage Classic is one of the premier cycling events in Colorado, raising money for a great cause. It is both a personal challenge and an opportunity to support positive outcomes for kids and families who need Children's Colorado. Your support turns the impossible into the possible…you’re helping thousands of families and every day transforming children’s health. We are conquering mountains and with your awe-inspiring generosity, we are helping to create a better world for our children, dollar by dollar, pedal by pedal, and one mountain pass at a time. 100% of the money raised is dedicated to Children's Hospital's amazing Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
This is my first year riding the Courage Classic. I'll be riding a two-day, 160 mile tour in Summit County on July 18th and 19th. Day one is the Copper Loop - 78 miles. (Copper – Leadville – Minturn – Vail Pass – Copper) The route has a total ascent of 7401.6 ft and has a maximum elevation of 11,353.22 ft. Day two is Ute Pass - 84 miles. (Copper – Frisco – Keystone – Ute Pass – Frisco – Copper) The route has a total ascent of 6516.7 ft and has a maximum elevation of 9,800.56 ft.
I am certain this will be a humbling and inspiring experience. But the challenge I know I will face up those mountain passes is nothing compared to the challenges faced every day by the kids at Children's Hospital. Please donate if you can. Or, better yet, ride with me! (click on join team to your right). Thanks for reading, riding and donating - we couldn't do it without you…I appreciate your support!
