my love for kids. I am constantly blessed to be able to work for and volunteer with several organizations that dedicate time, energy, and efforts to bettering the health and lives of children. NOW, I have an opportunity to add to that - I have finally found a way to exercise for kids!! On July 20th, I will be biking in the Courage Classic - a bike ride taking place on Copper Mountain here in Colorado - riding for Lincoln Hall.
Lincoln was born April 2nd, 2018 with Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Although he was born with only half of his heart he has fought each day with more tenacity than we ever dreamed such a little guy could contain. Just 4 days after Lincoln was born, he had his first open heart surgery on April 6th and another emergency surgery 3 days later. He had a long battle in the hospital but with loads of smiles and some great achievements in eating and finally gaining weight, he was discharged on June 15 for the first time. He stole quite a few hearts on his way out the door with his big smiles and great hairdo. He’s become the best and most adored little brother to his big bro Elliot and his family is enjoying every second watching his little tenacious personality emerge.
Lincoln had his second surgery on July 13th, 2018 and after quite a rough time and a few more surgeries he and his parents were finally able to leave the hospital in mid September. Unfortunately he had eating issues so they made one more stop in-patient for a g-tube placement that went very smoothly and by the first part of October they were on their way home to New Mexico for the first time since March.
Finally having this sweet boy at home has been an amazing gift for his entire family; He is thriving now at 14 months old and everyone who meets him is simply in awe of him everyday. Recently, Lincoln and his family relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee in hopes that the lower elevation will benefit him further. Lincoln is doing well and has such a happy personality. We know that the future is unknown and there will always be more surgeries and hospital stays but, he has proved to be such a fighter and truly a little heart warrior!!
