I am supporting the Courage Classic for patients like Katherine.Katherine was born on September 11, 2017 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Although we are from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she was born in Aurora, Colorado so the best doctors could care for her when she was born. Katherine had her Norwood at four days old with Dr. Jaggers and, fortunately, recovered well. Katherine had a rocky road Interstage, in and out of the hospital three times, a Cath work Dr. Morgan, and getting an NG tube for the last six weeks before the Glenn so she could gain enough weight. She had her Glenn at four months old, again, with Dr. Jaggers. She ended up needing another Cath, with Dr. Morgan again, to stent her pulmonary artery to keep her oxygen levels up; it helped a lot and we were driving back to Albuquerque three weeks later! We've been home for a little over a year and Katherine is really thriving. She's eating us out of house and home and running all over the place! She loves to color, pull all of her magnets off of the refrigerator and going to the park to swing. Katherine will not be the last child to face a life-threatening illness, and her family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis. The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
