By donating to our 150 mile ride, you will help many like Marcus. 100% of your donation will go to the Cardiac Department at Children's Hospital. We are so thankful for the amazing person he is today and grateful to call his family our dear friends..
Here is his story:
Marcus was diagnosed with a complicated congenital heart disorder (double outlet right ventricle and pulmonary stenosis) before he was born. His parents were advised by many to terminate the pregnancy. They were told, “he was compatible with life, but it wouldn’t be a very good life.” Miraculously, they found a cardiologist who was able to help Marcus. Since he was 4 months old, he has undergone three open-heart surgeries, has had several stints placed in his pulmonary artery, and endured numerous catheterization and electrophysiology procedures. Marcus and his family are so thankful for the wonderful cardiologists at Children’s Hospital.
Surrounded with love and prayers, and in spite of his cardiac issues, Marcus has led an energetic life, rich with activities. Some of his activities include playing baseball, fly-fishing in Alaska, skiing, snow boarding, camping, weight lifting, golfing, hunting and playing both the piano and guitar. Marcus has also held down a job while juggling schoolwork, maintaining a happy social life, and enjoying these many interests. His life has been much more than just “compatible!”
Marcus recently graduated with honors from Mullen High School. During his senior year, he was selected as Rector of Kairos, a special honor as the leader of an intense, four-day spiritual retreat. He comfortably shared with others the story of his medical journey and accompanying miracles. Marcus served as a leader to his classmates and continues to inspire both peers and adults with his courage, deep faith, steady personality, and positive outlook on life.
Marcus will be attending the University of Colorado this fall where he will study business and computer science. Thank you Children’s Hospital Colorado for his exceptional care! Thank you God for all your miracles!!
