Courage Classic Part 3
This year will be looking a little different as most of our world now does. Thanks to COVID, this year will be a virtual ride, but don't worry, my husband will make sure I am still getting my miles in!
A common misconception is that hospitals are one of the few entities that should be doing well during this pandemic. In fact, it's quite the opposite. While ICUs and ERs have been overwhelmed, the rest of the hospital has been shut down wherever possible in an abundance of caution. With "elective" procedure on hold, hospitals, including Children's have lost money during this time, and in fact need your support more than ever.
The last few months have brought many struggles for all of us. With all the uncertainty there were days I did not want to get out of bed, but as many people did their part by staying home, I continued to report to work in person. It has not, however, been business as usual. I am thankful that my job has remained relatively "low risk" and I am eternally grateful for my nurse collegues who have been working on the the front lines.
I know that everyone has stuggled lately, but I am inspired by the strength I see every day by my patients. If they can fight cancer we can rise up a fight this pandemic together.
The last 5 years I have worked in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado. Through my work I have had the privilege to meet and care for hundreds of kiddos and their families. What these kids go through on a daily basis is extremely difficult to say the least, but how they handle it is nothing short of amazing.
Unfortunately, even during a pandemic, there are new children diagnosed every day, and new families being told that their child has a life-threatening illness and their lives will forever be changed. All the money I raise goes back to the same kids I work with every day, and believe me, they are worth every penny! Please help if you are able by donating so that I, and my amazing coworkers can continue providing hope to the most deserving of kiddos!
