Martha was first diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in 2015. She was treated with chemotherapy and radiation at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Unfortunately, her cancer recurred in 2017. Since 2017, she has remained on therapy and continued to fight. She has received 6 different chemotherapy regimens, surgery, and radiation therapy during this time. However, she is always smiling every time we see her. She has not let her therapy slow her down. She will complete high school while receiving active therapy, and she will graduate in May 2020. She was an active member of her high school mountain biking team, and even raced on the weeks between her chemotherapy! She is an incredible member of our Wheels of Justice team, and she will bike in her 5th Courage Classic this year. Martha has amazingly biked up and over mountain passes while receiving chemotherapy. She is truly an inspiration to all of us. As Martha’s pediatric oncologist, I am honored to help care for her. She has inspired and motivated me to tackle my 2nd Courage Classic this year!
Not only will I be biking this year, but Nick, my husband, and Charlie, our oldest son, will also be joining me for the ride! Together with my family, colleagues, and patients, we are looking forward to the Courage Classic 2020. With your support, I know we can conquer the 100+ miles and 10,000 feet of climbing during the weekend.
The Courage Classic and the Wheels of Justice team help raise money that directly supports the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Your gift is helping support the care we provide these patients, like Martha! Thank you for your donation.
