This year I am excited to be riding on the Kempe for Kids Team.
Our team at the Kempe Center works to prevent child maltreatment and to help improve the lives of children and families who experience the trauma of abuse and neglect. As a member of the Kempe Center's faculty, I know firsthand how our work affects children, families, and the systems that serve them.
How do we do that?
- Through our child protection team at Children's we provide expert diagnostic and clinical supports to begin the process of healing children who have been abused and neglected.
- Through our Child Welfare Training System we offer state of the art training to casework staff in every county in Colorado whose job it is to keep children safe and insure their well-being.
- Through our work with Colorado's Office of Early Childhood we put in place prevention supports for at risk families through our Safe Care program.
- Through our internationally recognized research, we develop knowledge for practitioners, program managers, and other researchers as they implement the best and most scientifically based approaches to combat the problem.
First and foremost though, preventing child maltreatment and helping children and families who need it is a team effort. Our extended team is big and involves many caring people from Children's, Colorado, our nation, and even the world. Even though our team is large, the problem is the largest single public health issue affecting children.
We need the help of everyone who cares about how children fare in our world. I'd like to invite you to join our team and support the work of the Kempe Center.
