I ride to give hope to Children's Hospital Colorado patients like Maelyn.
Maelyn was born at Children’s Hospital Colorado in February 2016 with a severe Congenital Heart Defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which she had been diagnosed with at her 20 week ultrasound. Maelyn has half of a heart. This road that has brought her from what would have been a fatal diagnosis if she hadn’t been treated, to becoming a beautiful and energetic 4 year old, has not been an easy one for Mae and her family. Maelyn has had 12 surgeries, 3 of them being open heart surgeries and 4 heart catheterizations. She has spent almost 200 days inpatient on the Cardiac Floor at Children’s Hospital. There have been many ups and downs and there always will be for her. The miraculous news, however, is that she is surrounded by the most incredible groups of medical professionals that have taken her from being a fatally sick baby, to a sassy and hilarious girl who loves to tap dance, sing, and play with her Peppa Pig toys. Without the incredible people in the heart institute at CHCO, who have devoted their life’s work to helping kids with CHDs like our girl, Maelyn’s story would be a very different one.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
