To my Friends and Family,
Please join me for my 9th year in riding for the Childrens Hospital Courage Classic ride by sponsering me to help children like Theresa. Here is Theresa story.
Theresa arrived at the CICU at Children’s Hospital via Flight for Life just hours after being born. It was an intense first day of life for little Theresa, But her care would be a much more difficult road than anyone initially anticipated.
Theresa was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Treatment for HLHS consists of a series of three open heart surgeries to ‘rewire’ the heart to pump off a single ventricle. For Theresa these surgeries were complicated by some of her additional atypical heart structures. The second major surgery, the Glen procedure, failed in December.
The word “ heart transplant” started to come up in conversations with doctors.Theresa continued to have complication after complication post-surgery and Theresa was now in heart failure. A heart transplant would now be her best chance at survival.
With Theresa, time was of the essence she was getting sick from complications due to poor circulation, including two strokes she suffered in December.
She was officially listed for transplant in February. After 36 days of waiting, Theresa got her heart transplant.
Now, at 9 months old, Her new heart is functioning as it should. Theresa has lived the vast majority of her nine months of life in and out of the ICU at children’s Hospital. To date, she’s had three open-heart surgeries to put out the fires of a host of complications she’s experienced.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
My goal for this year is to raise $2000.00 to go towards the Cardiac unit at Chirldrens Hospital. Thank you in advacne for your donation.
