We already know the high points about Avery; she is smart, she is fearless, and she can make even Oscar the Grouch smile! But aside from her sunny disposition and crazy athletic talents, Avery is rapidly becoming the poster child and unofficial Heart Institute ambassador for living with congenital heart disease. She has attended every ICD Day (Inspiring, Connecting, Defeating the odds) and makes mincemeat out of ropes courses, zip-lines, and bungee trampolines. Can anything slow this girl down? Unlikely!
Your support goes directly to the Heart Institute and makes the amazing patient care and research possible. This year, we completed the first multi-center study of the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) in children and those with congenital heart disease. Years ago, Avery became one of the youngest patients in the United States to receive one! It is work like this that makes working at Children's Hospital so rewarding and working with patients like Avery so inspiring.
For our 3rd Courage Classic together, Avery and I would like to thank you for all the support and encouragement we have received over the years. Whether we will repeat the go-kart and zip-line madness remains to be seen but I can assure you of one thing; Avery's smile will be from ear to ear and she steal the cookie from your plate if you turn away!
