Look at Lea soar!
Lea had just turned 5 and was getting ready to start kindergarten when she first showed signs of illness. Three weeks later, on July 8, 2014, she was admitted to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital Colorado, with a diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy. She spent three months in the hospital, where she lived with a Berlin heart for two months, and finally, received a heart transplant on September 25, 2014.
Today, Lea is a rising 5th grader, an avid reader and hip hop dancer, and a fabulous big sister to her 7 year old brother. Lea's family is so grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Heart Institute for all they did for Lea while she was an inpatient as well as for the amazing continuing care they provide.
It breaks my heart that some children have to go through such difficult circumstances, but we are blessed to have such a dedicated children's hospital that rises to the challenge and meets the needs of children and families in such medical crises.
I'm riding for the 7th year in the Courage Classic for Children's Hospital of Colorado so that Lea, and others like her, can continue to have expert care and go on to climb mountains and live out their dreams. Won't you support me in helping Lea and other children thrive? No amount is too small. Thank you in advance!
