Why I ride
I ride for the kids, of course. I ride to represent the patients and families in the Allergy&Immunology section. But I also continue to ride because of the lessons I have learned from participating in the Courage Classic over the past four years. The Courage Classic has taught me about persistence and perserverance, about pushing boundaries, about not giving up, about hope, about courage, and to never say never.
Before I rode in my first Courage Classic in 2015, I said I could never ride a bike over Vail Pass. I was wrong.
Before I rode in my second Courage Classic in 2016, I said I could never ride 80 miles in one day. I was wrong again.
Before I rode in my third Courage Classic in 2017, I said I could never ride 80 miles back-to-back. Yep, wrong again.
Before I rode in my fourth Courage Classic in 2018, I thought I knew what I was getting into. But then I had a rough first day and cried at the top of Fremont Pass, which is really just a warm up for the rest of the long ride on the first day. Courage Classic usually makes me tear up seeing all the names of patients participants dedicate their rides to, but those tears at the top of Fremont Pass were out of exhaustion and knowing what still lay ahead. I made it through the rest of the ride that day - our patients and families never give up, so I wasn't going to either - and out for the long ride again the next day.
I'm proud to be coming back to the Courage Classic in 2019 for what will be my fifth and final tour. It has been a great honor for me to have been able to participate in this event and see first-hand the difference it makes in the lives of our patients and families. I have also been incredibly lucky to have had such a supportive team from the Allergy&Immunology section to encourage me for each turn of the pedals.
I am so grateful for your support. I have set my fundraising goal at $2305 for this year - if I can reach this, it will bring my total fundraising total to $10000 over the five years I have participated in this event. Thank you so much for supporting me, the Allergy&Immunology section, and Children's Hospital Colorado!
If you are interested in riding, we would love to have you join our team!
