I am supporting the Courage Classic for patients like Becca Kalivas.
Becca is in the 3rd trimester of her first pregnancy. She had an ultrasound at 20 weeks, and her fetus was found to have hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Then at 25 weeks, her fetus developed heart failure secondary to a very fast heart beat called supraventricular tachycardia. Becca was admitted and received medication to restore her fetus's normal rhythm. The heart failure slowly improved once the rhythm was normal. Heading into the home stretch, fetus Kalivas is growing well. We don't know what he looks like yet, but we know he has inherited his strength and courage from his parents. We all look forward to welcoming him on July 24th.
I ride for Becca, her husband and her son; for their courage and their faith in The Colorado Institute for Maternal and Fetal Health. They are not the firstor the last family to navigate a frightening diagnosis, but they will always have a special place in our hearts.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but an opportunity to support positive outcomes for pregnant women and thier families who rely on the CIMFH for hope and extraordinary care.
