Why I ride
Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to let you know that I am riding in the Courage Classic bicycle tour benefiting Children's Hospital Colorado again this year. This will be my fourth Courage Classic. Over the past few months I have trained to conquer mountain passes in our beautiful Colorado high country.
I am riding with the Wheels of Justice team, and my personal goal is to raise $1,800.00 for the children and families who rely on Children's Colorado for care. This year I will ride to honor the memory of Nathan and of Koby and will be riding alongside their families who are a very special part of our team.
I will also ride to honor Sophia and Sylvia. Sophia and Sylvia are two young girls who have both been diagnosed with craniopharyngioma, an extremely rare and complex, slow-growing brain tumor. It is so rare that there are only 120 children diagnosed with this type of tumor each year. Thus, there is little research and few options for treatment. However, Children’s Colorado is changing that! Pediatric neurosurgeon Todd Hankinson, MD, started a multi-institutional research consortium which “...has already made exciting discoveries about the biology of these tumors solely with philanthropic support,” Dr. Hankinson says. “With additional funding, we could completely revolutionize therapies for these kids."
Whether you are in Colorado or farther away, I am asking for your support because Children's Colorado is near and dear to our family. Kathryn is currently doing a sub-internship in neonatology and Megan recently completed a rotation in neurology at Children's Colorado as part of their medical school education. Additionally, I continue to volunteer at Children's Colorado. As you can see, we are strongly committed to this outstanding organization! Children's also provides care for kids from around the country and contributes to the health of children and families nationwide through outstanding research.
I invite you to join me in providing healthier futures for the thousands of kids served every year by Children's Colorado. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause by making your tax-deductible donation online. To make an online donation, click on the green Donate Now button above.
Donations large and small make a difference! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress. If you are able to make it to Copper Mountain on July 20-21, I invite you to join me for a post ride beverage! Thanks for supporting me in the Courage Classic!
