Why I ride
I ride for Juniper! Again! This will be my 7th year riding for Juniper! Juniper was born a healthy baby and at her one month check up it was discovered that she had cardiomyopathy. On September 17th, 2014 Juniper received a heart transplant at just 8 months old and I had the opportunity to be one of her nurses in the operating room that evening which was such an honor.
Juniper is celebrating 6 years of life thanks to her donor and the heart institute at CHCO. She's in Kindergarten, she's learning how to read this year, how to swim, and finally, how to eat! She's officially off of her g-tube feeds and has developed a love for chocolate ice cream! She's still obsessed with her best friend (the family dog) Otis and loves being the ring leader of the kid crew in the house teaching her brother and sister how to get restricted things from high places and where all the best hiding spots from mom and dad are in the house. Juniper is incredibly sweet, loves to snuggle but still has her fiery streak that she's needed since the day she was born.
Riding in honor of kids like Juniper in the Courage Classic allows us to raise money that goes directly to the Heart Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado, the very place that cared for Juniper before surgery, performed her surgeries, and will continue to care for her for a lifetime. I no longer work at Children's Hopsital Colorado as I had to move away, but I Keep coming back for this ride and Juniper!
