I ride the Courage Classic in honor of Jared Lujan who unselfishly gave up his fight to battle childhood leukemia in April of 2006, this year marking his 13th anniversary of his passing. When first diagnosed, his courage and acceptance left his family and friends with memories of toughness, stubbornness, respectfulness, and a willingness to live. It is through his spirit that we continue the fight to “kick cancer’s ass”. Jared is not the last child to face a life-threatening illness and his family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis. This year, we ride in honor of Nathan Gehris who lost his battle to cancer on March 8th, 1993. His dad Bernie will be riding his 20th Courage Classic, raising nearly $50,000 over the years in his fight to help find the cure for pediatric cancer.
The Courage Classic is one of the premier cycling events in Colorado, raising money for a great cause. It is both a personal challenge and an opportunity to support positive outcomes for kids and families who need Children's Colorado. Your support turns the impossible into the possible…you’re helping thousands of families and every day transforming children’s health. We are conquering mountains and with your awe-inspiring generosity, we are helping to create a better world for our children, dollar by dollar, pedal by pedal, and one mountain pass at a time. 100% of the money raised is dedicated to Children's Hospital's amazing Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
I'll be riding a two-day, 160 mile tour in Summit County on July 20th and 21st. I am so honored that this will be my sixth year riding the Courage – many of you have donated to this ride in the past; my goal is to get as may donations as I can. Let’s help support Children’s Hospital of Colorado so more families can have positive outcomes in their lives. Please take a moment to contribute in any way you can and with your support, no matter how small, we’ll cross the finish line together and help to make a difference at Children’s, for patients and their families.
It’s certainly a humbling and inspiring experience…ride with me (click on join team to your right). Thanks for reading, riding and donating - we couldn't do it without you…I appreciate your support!
