Why I ride... THE CHILDREN ARE WORTH IT!
This year, 2019, Courage falls on my 40th Birthday. I have decided #40for40 will be my token hashtag and I will comit to doing 40 miles both days (just to clearly make it to 41 )
I ride AS a mother, and FOR my patients Mother’s, as I could never in a million years fully comprehend what their heart endured. I'm riding for our Doctors whose research is dedicated to making a better life for these children with cancer, and those in need of bone marrow transplants. I ride for my fellow Nurse Practitioners and PA's, who shed so much laughter and tears throughout the years. I'm riding for the bedside nurses who spend more than half their day caring for someone else's child and the other 12 hours thinking about those same kids.
The jobs are endless, tireless, occasionally thankless but 100 times over, worth it! I'm riding for the memories and the experience. I'm riding for an incredible humbling experience in the mountains, God's country, with my husband and I'm riding to heal. I'm riding for the community of cycling and the community in general. I'm riding...because the children are worth it!
The Courage Classic is both a personal challenge and an opportunity to support positive outcomes for kids and families who need and have benefited from The WellnessTeam within the Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders, (Psychologist, Social Worker, Child Life Specialist, Resource Specialist (helps obtain grants, housing and transportating for families) and supporting the research of the Fellows 2nd and 3rd years.)
