Why I ride....
Hello to all my wonderful supporters! I hope you are all having a great summer so far! This summer will be my 16th year of riding in the Courage Classic! (the first year was in the early 90s and somehow fell off their records. ;) )
Its 2019 and time to think about riding my bike again for the Denver Children's Hospital ride in a few weeks. A link to my personal donation page is at the bottom of this email for your convenience.
In May 2013, our team's original reason for existence pass away at the age of only 21. Our little red-headed Anise was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 10 and fought the good fight for years. She had been cancer-free for quite a few years, but passed due to related issues. Christopher was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his teens and was a Childrens Hospital patient for several years before he passed due to his illness at 18. My entire family was devastated when my cousin's daughter Natalie passed away from a childhood cancer at the age of only 11, but the whole family was supported immensely by her Childrens Hospital in Michigan. But Childrens Hospitals are there for these kids and their families, giving them hope, strength, and courage to fight the enormous battle in front of them.
Anise was the reason Connie started the team and I joined 'just to ride' with friends. I came to know more about Children's through the past 12+ years of riding on the team - understanding that it was kids like Anise, Natalie, and Christopher who were being helped by my commitment.
A few years ago Team YAPS merged with another team, Wheels of Justice, so we could make a bigger impact and have a say in which departments at Children's get our donations. Having that ability and being part of a bigger group is fun and helps me be even more motivated towards this experience.
Anise, Natalie, and Christopher and all the other kids will not be the last children to face a life-threatening illness, and their families will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis. The Courage Classic is both a personal challenge and an opportunity to support positive outcomes for kids and families who need Children's Colorado.
Thank you for your consideration. Any amount - $5, 10, 25, or more - is helpful and greatly appreciated! I will keep on training and fundraising as I work toward the goal of supporting kids in need of care at Children's Colorado.
Thank you. Thank you. and Thank you.
