I am riding in the Courage Classic this year to support patient's like Alex. I am thankful to have met Alex while working in the Cardiac Pre-Post when she comes in for infusions for treatment related to her heart transplant. Sometimes Alex will be in a 2-3 times a week or maybe once a month to my specific unit but has many appointments during the week. I look forward to seeing her smile and share laughs together. During these times, I have been able to witness not only what strength and perseverance she has but also what makes Alex...Alex. She is one of most witty, kind and resilient girls I know and she leaves a lasting impression on those she meets.
Alex's story: My name is Alex I had my transplant in Arkansas when I was nine and my second transplant when I was 12 I also had a lot of complications after this surgery including not being able to walk, talk, or drink regular liquids. When I was 15 I was diagnosed with heart failure for the third time. I moved to Colorado in 2016 for a second opinion the doctors quickly made me feel better. I go to appointments almost every week. I love cracking jokes with my nurses and seeing Ralph. When I’m not in the hospital I like to paint,go to the movies, and play with my dogs.
Please consider a small donation! Donations come back to the Heart Institue to help Alex and patients just like her!
