I am supporting the Courage Classic for patients like Chase. and finished my ride this year in fine fashion! Please consider supporting Children's Hospital in order to help kids like Chase who was born 2 months early in full cardiac arrest and spent nearly 3 months in the Children’s Hospital Colorado NICU. He continues to face challenges ranging from respiratory issues to partial blindness. I spent a few weeks at the old Children's Hospital once located in downtown Denver during my childhood and am forever grateful to the staff and Dr.'s there who gave me such caring treatment. I am riding now to give back and to honor my daughter Stephanie, who works for Children's Hospital now.
Chase asked his mom, Laura, if he could ride with her in the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour. Given his medical challenges, this was no small feat, but Chase was determined to learn to ride a bike. After a lot of hard work (and falls), Chase rode with Laura's Durango Derailers Team of family and friends across the Courage Classic finish line -- a true testament to his courage and strength against all odds.
Chase will not be the last child to face a life-threatening illness, and his family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis. Children's helped me get through similar life-threatening asthma attacks several times in my childhood, and for their help, I will be forever grateful.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
